Eugene Company Pays Its Employees to Carpool and Bike to Work

And pays at Mountain Rose Herbs

Eugene’s Mountain Rose Herbs has been selling organic herbs for 22 years. As the company’s website states it has always had an:

uncompromising commitment to organic agriculture and steadfast focus on the pure aesthetics and freshness of botanical products.Throughout all of these magnificent and developmental years we have always put an emphasis on conducting business in an ethical, responsible, clear, and ecological way; hoping to pave a medium for other blossoming green companies.

They are taking that example to a new level with their carpool and bicycle program.

Launched in October, the program pays employees who carpool to work 12 cents per mile per passenger. Those who bicycle to work receive 20 cents per mile. There is an added incentive of $500 at the end of the year for the employee who has logged the most miles.

Another Oregon Company, Standing Stone Brewery, is also promoting a similar strategy in Ashland. We wrote about it here.

We hope other Oregon companies take note of these pioneering practices and start their own incentive programs.
